My Daily Must-Do’s

These are some ways I go about my days in the most fulfilling ways:

  • Nothing
    • Doing nothing is critical for me. Feeling into my surroundings, my breath, being present, taking in what’s around me, and enjoying the wholeness of it all. It dilutes my mental chatter and reminds me that I’m neither my body nor my thoughts. I am. Here.
Yes, this is 5-year-old Smriti in Palm Springs.
  • Hearty laughs
    • Either after a filling meal or scrolling through old pictures or watching Bollywood comedy clips, I end up with teary-eyed laughs in some way shape, or form. The source can be anything.
  • Cooking
    • It could just be instant noodles or adding scallions on top of canned soup. Some days it’s a full-fledged meal for my whole family. I love the intuitive nature of making food I enjoy.
  • Writing or Video Editing
    • Here is where my creative juices flow. My writing content has no fixed boundaries, allowing for infinite writing pieces. Video editing is where my visual fantasies come to life with elements, transitions, and effects. I can show people how I see the world.
  • Exercise
    • Sounds basic, but it’s life-changing. I genuinely feel more powerful, more secure in my body, and more fluid in whatever I do. It could be weights, stairs, or just a simple evening walk. I love doing a mix of weights and then a walk after (which I enjoy more than weights). Something about exercise gets me in this meditative state where nothing else matters but the weights I’m holding or the flowers I’m passing by during my walks. It’s a different kind of relaxing.
  • Grocery shopping
    • The endless aisles, colorful produce, warm bakery, and beeping of the cashiers make the grocery store feel like a playground. I feel like a 4th grader in a Scholastic Book Fair. I’m inspired to craft new dishes when I find fresh ingredients. It’s like each row of food is more endless possibilities.
