The Weeknd (Abel Makkonen Tesfaye), the popular singer, recently released his new album, Dawn FM 103.5. This futuristic album encapsulates revolution, excitement, and mystery as he sings about heartbreak, surrender, and salvation. He takes us on an emotional ride on how life trauma influences love in “A Tale By Quincy”, comes clean about his relationship insecurities in “Is There Someone Else?“, and exhilarating passion and temptation in “Take My Breath“.
As I listened through the entire album, here are the songs that I couldn’t help but rewind and replay:
- Take My Breath
This is my favorite workout song and never fails to help me hit PRs. Whether it’s the leg press or Stairmaster, this song elevates me to a whole different level.
- Sacrifice
My favorite way to listen to this deep, masculine song is slowed (I find slowed versions on Youtube). The bass, the power, and the beat, perfectly amalgamate themselves into a luxurious tune that lingers in my head all day.
- Tale by Quincy
This one isn’t a song, but a refreshing story of how childhood trauma shaped the perspective of modern love. It is a raw, saddening, but compelling tale about how uncontrollable events can heavily impact one’s present experience of life.
- Out of Time
To me, Out of Time gives the aesthetic of ruminating and reflecting on your life decisions at a jazz club, like the ending of a movie. You’re sitting there at the table, questioning why you took so much for granted, wishing you could go back and just live in the moment. A sigh and a laugh make the pain and memories seem so trivial. Why did you ever worry? Why didn’t you just live?
