The Perfect Day

Fresh rays of sunshine peer through the window sills, signaling the start of a new day. My eyes, barely open, check the phone to see whether I’m lucky enough to squeeze in few more minutes of sleep.

YES! I don’t have to wake up for another hour.

However, this hour feels like 2 minutes. Before I even realize, my alarm disturbs my sleep when it’s sweetest.

Ugh.

I brush my teeth, wash my face, and take a quick shower. I throw on the closest flare jeans and crewneck I can find: the perfect outfit. The pink on my cheeks grows in pigment as I layer more and more blush. For some drama, I apply shiny highlighter on my eye’s inner corners and brow bone. I complete my look with my typical lip color and clear gloss. We’re ready to go.

After a sugary bowl of Honey Bunches of Oats cereal, I pack up my backpack. Bose noise-cancelling headphones, computer, iPad, water bottle, gym clothes, snacks, and charging cables. I head out for the day

I trudge up the hilly campus to my first lecture: psychology research and data analysis class. After class, I head to the East Asian Studies library. What I love about this library is the incredibly modern design it has. It’s quiet, almost cave-like, with it’s stone stairs and dimmed lighting. Hours pass as I do readings, finish assignments, and take plenty of 10-minute naps. I emerge from this addicting flow-state to attend a discussion, finishing my classes for the day.

On the way back home, I stop by at the Campanile Tower. This tower is a monumental aspect of UC Berkeley and an amazing place to adore San Francisco, Berkeley, Oakland, and the college campus.

For lunch, I either make a sandwich or indulge in last night’s leftovers. There’s a high chance that my post-meal “schlump” will hit right around this time. My once-promised 30-minute naps become 3-hour long naps without even trying. I wake up with my eyes rested, mind fresh, and body relaxed. Now, I feel capable to get my work done. My work usually consists of assignments, studying, attending club meetings, blogging, editing or filming for YouTube, or learning new skill sets.

After a few hours, I love FaceTiming my parents. It feels like a breath of fresh air especially when work seems to consume me. I enjoy hearing their laughs because it feels like I am at home with them. The worries and stresses of college disappear instantly when I’m calling them.

Dinner is at my favorite restaurant ever: Tasty Pot. It is an authentic hotpot place where I enjoy soup, vegetables, and rice served in a fire-heated bowl. Spending time with friends over piping-hot food on a chilly evening is what perfect means to me.

Once I’m back home, I’m in my own vibe usually working, relaxing, painting, or blogging. If I have the energy, I will squeeze in some readings or studying. I always am in anticipation of the moment my eye lids get heavy. At around this time, I’m not able to comprehend anything I’m looking at and I can only think of sleep.

This is the perfect time for me to put everything aside and melt into my bed. My mind is empty, my body tingles in excitement to sleep, and my sheets look more inviting than ever.

I drift off into sweet sleep, ready for another perfect day to wake up to.
